Little Brother {11 months old}...

In thirty short days our sweet boy will be a year old. He is looking more and more like a little boy and less like a baby.

Growing: We won't have an official weight/height check for another month, but he seems to be growing steadily. He's a little longer, a little rounder, but still just a peanut. I did just swap out most of his 6-12 month sized clothes for the 12-18 month stuff. He is a size three in both shoes and diapers.

Eating: Issac still nurses at least 4 times a day. There have been a few times lately that he hasn't felt good, or had much of an appetite, and he wanted to nurse more than usual on those days. He eats three meals a day, with a few snacks scattered in as he needs them. He seems to eat nonstop these days. He still hasn't shown any signs of allergies, though I did back away from yogurt because is seemed to be causing him to spit up more often. The last potential allergen that he hasn't had yet is peanuts, and we'll likely introduce those sometime in the next few weeks. In general he is so easy to feed and will eat just about anything. He seems to love meat (chicken and fish are his favorites) and bready things (pancakes, toast, cornbread). He doesn't mind a little spiciness in his food either, but does give a funny little tongue out expression when things are spicy.

Sleeping: Teething has made sleeping really hit or miss for him. We've had a few nights this month that he woke up every 8-15 minutes all. night. long! Thankfully, that is not his normal and he seems to be back to his routine of falling asleep around 9 pm and waking up just after 7 am. If we are home and he is able, he would love to take two naps a day. Given his way he would likely sleep from 9-noon and then again from 3:30-5. Some days, however, he must settle for one nap and in general he does okay with it.
He doesn't often sleep in the car, but mostly because there is constant entertainment from his sisters to keep him awake.
Teething: He now has the bottom left and top left teeth. The bottom right cut through this week, but is still hard to see with the naked eye, and the top right tooth is bulging and very close to coming through.

Talking: Signing (more, milk, all done) and babbling (da-da, ba-ba, etc), but no "real" words.

Moving: He is quick and can get anywhere (up, over, around, under) he wants to go. Usually if left on his own he will play happily with his toys, but when I turn my back for a minute he will bee line it to the kitchen floor where he will gather up anything he dropped off his tray at the previous meal. He usually is happy on his belly, but has recently started pulling himself to his knees and feet when he wants to get closer to someone or something.
A safe way to watch his sisters' swimming lessons.
Personality: He is still a sweet and smiley boy. He loves people, and hates being left alone. He adores his sisters and lately can't get enough of them. He is thrilled when daddy comes home after a day of work. And even though he is with me all day, there are times when he will come over to be held and then just bounces and hugs me after I pick him up. He is strong and smart and so sweet. He is happy and content, unless he's not... then he's really not. He yells, no, he screams when something isn't ideal. Thankfully, most of the time, he finds things to be ideal.

Nicknames: No new nicknames to announce. He responds to pretty much anything, so no worries about identity confusion.

Likes: He's been in to Legos (well, Duplos) and the little red kitchen lately. I think he likes playing with his sisters, and feels big when they are all playing together. He loves books and baths. He loves being outside. He likes screens (though we don't let him watch anything). His strangest love is Starbucks straws. He doesn't want the coffee, just the straw. He doesn't want any other straw either - just those lovely, green beauties from the coffee shop. I'll finish a latte and hand over my straw and he has been known to not let go for six hours. He takes it everywhere with him, eats one handed while holding on the straw with the other hand, even sleeps with it securely in his grasp.

Dislikes: He doesn't like when something gets taken away from him. He doesn't like being left alone. He doesn't always like the car... especially if he is in the back seat without his sisters. He doesn't like being told "no."

Snapshots {week 27}...

The summer is quickly coming to an end. We are filling our days with a good blend of necessary errands, fun day-trips, and time at home. We have one more mini-vaca coming up, and then it is back to school (and all that entails). I think the excitement is building, but I also think that if it were up to us we would all choose a few more months of summer.

Babies in shoe boxes.

Sleeping at a soccer game. Completely unphased by the noise around him.
Big boy on the tire swing in grandma and grandpa's back yard.

Merrick and the kids went to the Farmer's Market with our neighbors. They enjoyed the samples, ate Mexican food, and danced on the lawn to the music of a mediocre band. All good things for a hot summer night. (I was out to dinner with some friends I haven't seen much this summer.)
 Car seat swap!
One of my favorite parts of summer is church meeting outside at the property. This was extra special as it also served as the "ground breaking" of sorts for our new building.

Vita-Mix samples at Costco are the B.E.S.T. Nope. This isn't snot...
Yep, this is snot. (I'm so ready for his teeth to pop through and his nose to dry up a bit before cold season starts again in a few weeks.)

We haven't been to the zoo in almost a year, so it was fun to meet some friends for a morning of animal fun. Little Brother was a huge fan of the animals (especially the ones who were awake.)
Three hours at the zoo, followed by three hours at Papa's Pizza. One tired baby.
Grace had a fun day with these sweet school friends. It was an all-too-real picture of what life will be like when she is a teenager.
Pancakes for lunch!
I love the sunsets in August.
Such a sleepy boy. Such a sweet big sister.
Claire was my big helper when we were taking care of Shannon's plants.
He is starting to look like such a little boy. I'm sad to say good bye to his baby stage, but am excited for what this next year will hold.

Snapshots {week 26}...

Looking back at the blog I realize that it is about this time each summer that I lose all semblance of routine and structure. We are 100% engrossed in summer - and therefore have little time to sit and keep the blog up to date.

Here's a glimpse at the last two weeks. Perhaps some of these pictures will trigger my memory and cause a few additional posts in the next few days.

A night out with some friends to celebrate a few July/August b-days.

A naughty boy who was awake when I got home (way too late) and wanted to see himself in the camera (and incidentally capture pictures in the process).
 Naughty boy and kleenex. Ugh!
Getting five crazy kids to hold still proved impossible.
School-clothes shopping with this crew has been...interesting.

Grace went to a birthday party at Oaks Park Skating Rink, so I took Claire and bought her a ride bracelet. She had a blast going on all sorts of rides... especially once her buddy Declan showed up to ride with her. Together they even braved the giant black octopus.

A fun birthday surprised marked the very last package that I'll ever get from this return address. Bittersweet.

After helping himself to our picnic dinner, I hosed him off before taking him inside. He kind of liked it.
Three teeth in the last few weeks has made Little Brother a snotty, grumpy mess. You can't tell it from this picture, but he's sort of been a nightmare.

Tito accompanied us on a pre-birthday date night.
First dinner, followed by a bucket of balls at sunset, and we finished with s'mores in the street with our neighbors.
Frozen blueberries make a giant mess.
We spent a day in Portland for my birthday - wandering around the farmers market, visiting the MLS All Star festivities, cooling off in a fountain, and enjoying lunch at the food carts.

An afternoon of games is getting harder and harder. He just wants to join the rest of us (Or ruin everything. It's hard to tell.).
We got to see Uncle Craig - and his newest toy - this weekend.

MLS All Star week was a blast. Lots going on and lots of fun to be had.

Swim lessons are still going. The girls are really getting strong in the pool.
Trying to relax and stretch and I get bombarded by this binky boy.
 He loves to snuggle.
 A fun play-date with friends.

All ready for the big game!

It was so hot, so Issac watched the game topless. He met a baby girl friend that loved his big muscles.
 The snot is never ending.
Look what finally came! We are one step closer to a handful of adventures this fall!!!

A weekend of camping with this crew was absolutely perfect.
